Shaena Mallett, the Winter 2009 intern at the Valley News, is a student at Ohio University studying photojournalism and cultural anthropology. She previously interned with The International Center for Transitional Justice (NYC), a human rights based organization. Upon returning to Ohio, Mallett will be assistant-teaching the Athens Photographic Project, a therapeutic photography class for mentally handicapped adults.

Since leaving the University of Minnesota for New England in 1989, Geoff Hansen has been a photographer at the Valley News. He was named photo editor of the newspaper in 1998. As a student, Hansen worked at the Minnesota Daily, Kalamazoo (Mich.) Gazette, and The Patriot Ledger in Quincy, Mass.
